Bach with Ars Musica and Jaap Eilander

October 24, 2020 @ 02:00

Pianist Jaap Eilander has released a new album this spring with original keyboard works by Bach and arrangements for piano by Siloti, Stradal and his own arrangements.
This creates a beautiful synthesis of baroque and romanticism on this album, which you will listen to during this concert. These works by the greatest composer of all time are complemented by his 5th keyboard concerto. When the harpsichord was replaced by the hammer keyboard and later the piano, these keyboard concertos were performed on these modern instruments. In this 5th keyboard concerto, pianist Jaap Eilander collaborates with the Ars Musica Orchestra and plays a Fazioli concert grand himself. In addition to music by Johann Sebastian Bach, piano music by the Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninov and the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius is also programmed. A carefully constructed program has been drawn up for this evening. Sibelius compared his own music to pure water, describing music by other composers as a cocktail. Rachmaninov's music carries a deep nostalgia and melancholy to his homeland. Rachmaninov spent much of his life in Europe and the US. This well-known Russian composer was taught by his cousin, Alexander Siloti, also a great pianist and Bach enthusiast who wrote some much-loved Bach arrangements. One of these can be heard tonight and that completes the circle: Bach, Sibelius & Rachmaninov on piano by Jaap Eilander.

Reviews

"Patrick van der Linden is a very nice conductor to work with. He is very musical, and makes music in a very natural way, together with the musicians around him.
You notice that there is a good atmosphere during rehearsals and concerts, because he really seeks collaboration with his people. He also gives a lot of confidence to the musicians who work with him, which I find very pleasant."
