PATRICK VAN DER LINDEN

Biography

Patrick van der Linden is a passionate conductor and music theorist who inspires people to make music together. He studied choral conducting, orchestral conducting and music theory at various conservatories. At the Rotterdam Conservatory he was regarded as high potential and he obtained his diplomas with distinction.

As an analytically skilled and creative musician who lives life as an idealistic optimist, he constantly undertakes initiatives to transfer knowledge of music during various musical projects. This drive and passion for music is in his genes; Patrick sang in choirs from childhood and was already a choir director in the sixth grade of secondary school.

In 2008 Patrick was one of the founders of Ars Musica, which grew under his artistic leadership. He is head of the Ars Musica Concert Choir, Chamber Choir and Orchestra. He also founded the chamber choir Canticum Amicorum and is active as conductor of the Zeeuws Vocaal Ensemble, the Haags Toonkunstkoor and Merwe's Oratoriumvereniging. Working with and developing young musical talent is just right for him. His current teaching position at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague fits in completely with his musical career. He previously taught at the Rotterdam Conservatory (2013-2018).

Patrick's concert programs are characterized by great cohesion, surprising connections and a wide spectrum of music styles. In addition to a predilection for Bach, Beethoven and Brahms, Patrick studied the musical nineteenth-century performance practice and in his programming he pays a lot of attention to repertoire after 1900. Compositions by Daan Manneke, Geerten Liefting, Dirk Zwart, Hans Lachmann and Patrick van Deurzen, among others, premiered under his direction.

Because of his extensive music-historical knowledge and the inspiring way in which he conveys this, Patrick regularly gives concert introductions and musical presentations at companies by invitation. He is a welcome coach for conducting courses and frequently uses his expertise in chamber music ensembles or orchestras.

Patrick considers himself a musician in heart and soul, but is broadly interested: he also studied economics and likes to delve into other art forms, philosophy, (art) symbolism, history and religion.

Other activities

As a continuo player I regularly participate in concerts. I give conducting lessons to advanced and novice conductors.

I regularly give lectures and masterclasses on musical subjects in various contexts. I accompanied chamber music ensembles, conductors and gave intonation workshops. But I also gave lectures for companies about 'wonder' or 'leadership'.
