BACH TALKS

October 8, 2014 @ 2:00 am

After the success that Chamber Choir Ars Musica achieved in 2013 with the multi-year concept BACH AANHET WORD, this line will be continued in these concerts. Central to this concept is making musical and textual lines audible from Bach's church music towards music from other times. For example, the completely new composition 'Vater Unser' by Dirk Zwart fits entirely into the total program that was created from Bach's motet BWV 226: 'Der Geist hilft unsrer Schwachheit auf'. It is certainly worthwhile to come and listen to the original motet alongside this new work. An evening on which past and present meet and lead to an unprecedented musical experience!

Do you like to sing and are you a fan of Bach? Then come to the sing-along workshop Bach Chorals, starting at 19:30. Together with the professional singers of the Ars Musica chamber choir and under the inspiring leadership of Patrick van der Linden, you will study two Bach chorales. Attention will also be paid to background information about singing Bach's masterful chorales and, if necessary, you will receive tips from the singers about the correct use of the voice.

After the sing-along workshop Bach chorales you can immediately enjoy the beautiful concert of Chamber Choir Ars Musica with the central motet BWV 226 'Der Geist hilft unsrer Schwachheit auf'. A program with Bach and composers who were inspired by Bach and his music.

In BACH TO THE WORD, Bach's sacred works form the pivot of the programme. Parallels are drawn from the theme of the motet 'Der Geist hilft unser Schwachheit auf' to compositions by Schütz, Wesley, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Cornelius, and Rheinberger. A commissioned composition has also been written especially for this program by Dirk Zwart, winner of the Te Deum Laudamus Prize.

Program:

Bach, motet “Der Geist hilft unsrer Schachheit auf”, BWV 226
Bach, motet “Lobet dem Herrn”, BWV 230

"A beautiful, honest Matthäus Passion! Conductor Patrick van der Linden managed to combine all forces so beautifully."
