Sound Leadership!

Ars Musica Orkest is looking for the business community

The Ars Musica Foundation, in collaboration with Lansigt accountants and tax advisers BV and the Entrepreneurs Network Ars Musica, is organizing a workshop on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 under the motto Sound Leadership!
In this workshop, managers and entrepreneurs can gain insight into the future-proofness of their leadership style and leadership capacities in a playful and exciting way.

The manager of the future understands the art of inspiring employees, inspiring products, exuding confidence and being creative with a high degree of flexibility and taking advantage of changes. For more than 150 years, that's exactly what a good conductor of an orchestra does. The conductor as orchestra manager succeeds in getting a group of professionals moving through (non-)verbal communication, whereby each professional strives for the same joint outcome and also goes for it completely. In short: a manager can learn a lot from a conductor.

As in the successful TV program Maestro, participants in this workshop can lead the 40-piece Ars Musica Orchestra. In doing so, they are held up to a mirror on their style of leadership and communication and their attitude and appearance in a situation that was new and exciting for them. Musical knowledge or previous history is not required. The pieces of music to be played are well known and will be communicated to the participants in advance.

The workshop will run from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. After an introduction and instruction of about 45 minutes, a maximum of twelve participants go 'on the goat' for the orchestra of the Ars Musica Foundation with professional musicians. Thanks to their musicality, they are willing and able to give the participants a good learning experience on their leadership as a conductor. Participants receive simple conducting assignments (eg 'keep the tempo') and perform them with the orchestra in short music fragments. The conducting assignments have already been discussed with the participants in the instruction. Experiences are discussed and tested with each other. Afterwards there is a joint meal with discussion of the experiences by the participants. Wine house Kastelein from Polsbroek also organizes a wine tasting of Hungarian wines.

The workshop is also open to participants who do not go 'on the goat' themselves, but who do experience the whole process in or behind the orchestra. In this way, they can participate in the discussion and think about the way in which leadership is defined and what they can learn from it.

The workshop takes place at a unique location: the specially equipped warehouse and canteen of Verdouw Bouwproducten BV in Gouderak, which is happy to make this location available for this special event.

The substantive supervision of the workshop is in the hands of Patrick van der Linden (artistic leader of the Ars Musica Foundation) and Dirk Louter (trainer/advisor, initiator of the Ars Musica Entrepreneurial Network).

Participation in the workshop costs € 195 (ex. VAT) for participants who will actually conduct. This includes the instruction. Other participants pay € 95 (ex. VAT). For all participants this includes the meal; in addition, there is free admission for the subsequent public rehearsal of the orchestra. That rehearses from 7.30 pm for the concert in De Doelen in Rotterdam

This workshop is part of the Ars Musica Lansigt Muziekvierdaagse, which will be held from Wednesday 16 September to Saturday 19 September 2015.

Reviews

"Patrick van der Linden is a very nice conductor to work with. He is very musical, and makes music in a very natural way, together with the musicians around him.
You notice that there is a good atmosphere during rehearsals and concerts, because he really seeks collaboration with his people. He also gives a lot of confidence to the musicians who work with him, which I find very pleasant."
