Messiah GF Handel – Opening Concert Bach Week 2017

February 14, 2017 @ 01:00

Three weeks.
It seems an improbably short time to construct a masterpiece like the Messiah. And yet: Georg Frederic Handel did it. Inspired by Charles Jennens' beautiful libretto about Jesus Christ, the Messiah, he composed a monumental oratorio for choir, soloists and orchestra in 1741 that has endured the centuries with flying colours. In 'Messiah' we see the life of Jesus Christ from birth to ascension.

Three weeks.

It seems an improbably short time to rediscover this masterpiece. But at Ars Musica this becomes possible for young and passionate singers from all over the country. Inspired by the beautiful music of Handel, they take on the unique challenge of combining their vocal talent within a period of three weeks into a beautiful performance on March 18, 2017 under the baton of conductor Patrick van der Linden. The instrumental accompaniment is provided by Ars Musica Orkest and a quartet of top soloists completes a unique experience.

A feast to experience for the Ars Musica Messiah choir, soloists, Ars Musica Orchestra and the public. We are happy to welcome you here.

Reviews

"Patrick van der Linden is a very nice conductor to work with. He is very musical, and makes music in a very natural way, together with the musicians around him.
You notice that there is a good atmosphere during rehearsals and concerts, because he really seeks collaboration with his people. He also gives a lot of confidence to the musicians who work with him, which I find very pleasant."
