On the shoulders of Haydn – Autumn tour Ars Musica Orchestra and Concert Choir

May 5, 2021 @ 02:00

What do we do when the motto is not 'touch', but 'keep your distance'?
When you are with the other person with your heart, and express it, the most beautiful things arise. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote a soprano aria in the Mass in C minor as a gift to his wife Constanze. Even now we can effortlessly hear and feel his vivid love for her. Joseph Haydn is central to our program as the great architect and founder of the symphony (we play Nr.44 'Trauersinfonie'). But affection comes in many forms. Without him no Mozart, without him no Beethoven. And without him no tributes from Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. Ars Musica initiated an orchestration by Misha Sporck of two pieces by these composers, a special tribute to 'Papa Haydn'. Finally, we hear the love of a son for his father in Gabriel Fauré's gentle Requiem. This work, full of melodious beauty, embraces death as the conclusion of a well-lived life.

Aria Laudamus te – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Homage to Haydn, Maurice Ravel/Claude Debussy (orchestration Misha Sporck, premiere)

Reviews

"A great talent. He can approach a choir as an orchestra conductor and an orchestra as a choral conductor. That cross-pollination makes him unique."

Jan Stulen - Conductor June 16, 2022
