In November 2018, the Zeeuws Vocaal Ensemble will organize two 'Waternight' concerts around the theme of 'water' as part of the theme year '2018 Netherlands Waterland'.
The first concert will take place on Friday 23 November in the Grote Kerk in Terneuzen. The second concert will take place on Saturday 24 November in the Nieuwe Kerk in Zierikzee. During the concerts a variety of vocal works will be performed, each of which has to do with the theme of 'water'. The program includes music by Whitacre, MacMillan, Palestrina and Sweelinck, but also by the founder of the Zeeuws Vocaal Ensemble, Kees van Eersel; in the context of the choir's 30th anniversary. Both a cappella and with piano accompaniment are sung. The pianist, Mark Toxopéus, will also perform solo to illustrate the 'water' on the piano.
Works on the program:
- Water Night – Whitacre
- Broad Waters – Szeroka Woda
- Alpha & Omega – MacMillan
- Sure on this shining night – Lauridsen
- To be sung on a Summer Night on the Water – Delius
- Four Sailor Songs – Sumsiuon
