To this day, the Old Testament Psalms are an inexhaustible source of inspiration.
The Psalms occupy a large place in various Christian traditions. On Saturday 10 June 2017, the Ars Musica Foundation is therefore organizing a theme day around the Psalms in the Grote Kerk in Zaltbommel. For advanced amateur organists there is an organ competition during the day. During this competition, the players play a psalm partita as a compulsory piece. An expert jury consisting of Gerben Budding, Rien Donkersloot and Sietze de Vries will judge their game.
In the evening the focus is on the singing of Psalms. A choir, consisting of the singers of the (Jong) Concertkoor Ars Musica, will perform various psalm arrangements from different liturgical traditions under the direction of Patrick van der Linden and Arjen Uitbeijerse.
Gerben Budding, Rien Donkersloot and Sietze de Vries will play the organ of the Grote Kerk.
Church musician, music scholar and hymnologist Dr Arie Eijkelboom will explain the psalm arrangements from their original context.
